BSF Update - March 2010

We will shortly be agreeing the final design for the re-modelled school. Although there are still a few details to be agreed most changes are now decided. We shall be using the Kenrick and Leycroft buildings for the new school, with most of Martineau being demolished and the Sheldon building returning to the Local Authority.

There will be covered walk-ways between the new clusters, and a new entrance is to be built. There will also be a new Sports Hall. The classrooms will be organised into clusters, each of which will be a destination in its own right. This is designed to reduce the impact of movement between rooms.

Time Scales

Building is due to start in the summer. This means that we will be moving the students into temporary accommodation to free up both of the buildings needed by the construction team. The plan for this temporary move is to use as much of Martineau and Sheldon as possible.

We are working hard with the Local Authority and with the Local Education Partner (LEP) to ensure that there will be no disruption to the education of students. We will let you know as soon as possible about any changes to school organisation.

The LEP is planning to complete work on the two main buildings by July 2011, about a year after construction starts. We are planning to move into the refurbished buildings just before the summer holiday in 2011 so that we can make a seamless start to the new school year.
